Every other year for 140 days, the Texas Legislature convenes and considers new laws governing the citizenry and businesses of Texas. The Leadership class learned a lot about state-level advocacy and how legislation is done in Texas. The class was able to witness Texas State House hearings and debates. They also took a private tour of the state capitol. They were able to meet with State Senator Mayes Middleton and State Representative Terri Leo-Wilson. The group also visited the Texas Association of Busi- ness where they met with Glenn Hammer, President/ CEO of Texas Association of Business, and Drew Scheberle, Executive Director of Texas Chamber of Commerce Executives. Cupit spoke about the importance of self-care and different ways to manage your personal wellness. She also spoke about the importance of mental health and the topic “imposter syn- drome” and how to avoid getting stuck in the mindset of being an imposter in your place of work.
