The announced retirement of current Presi- dent Jenny Senter, which will be effective Dec. 31, led the Chamber Board of Directors to adopt a succession plan that encompassed the abil- ity to bring in an incoming president to work alongside leadership for the remainder of 2020. Page will then move forward in the role of pres- ident beginning in January 2021. “Our organi- zation is poised for 2021 with Page’s experi- ence and talent,” Rusty Placke- meier, 2020 Chair- man of the Board, said. “She brings a wide variety of leadership skills that will grow and elevate our already successful chamber.” Page comes to Texas City and La Marque from Brenham, where she led the Washington County Chamber of Com- merce, tourism bureau and economic development office for almost two decades. Recently, Page has coordi- nated business development for Community Matter, Inc. Page’s leadership, initiative and financial acumen will be great assets. From a statewide perspective, Page has served as president of the Gulf Coast Chamber of Commerce Exec- utives and has served on the Board of Directors of both Texas Association of Business as well as the Texas Chamber of Commerce Executives Asso- ciation and served as a Board member of the Association of Texas Leadership Programs. Page received the Distin- guished Service Award from Texas Chamber of Commerce Executives in 2015 and is cer- tified as an IOM by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. “Our communities of Texas City and La Marque will gain immensely from Page’s experience, not only in the chamber profession, but also her knowledge of economic development,” Georgia Meyer, Chairman Elect for 2021, said. The Search Committee, which was activated in De- cember 2019, did an exten- sive outreach of candidates and thorough series of interviews in seeking this important role to lead the 50-year- old, well-respected organiza- tion. With strong emphasis on vision, management and financial acumen, the Search Committee took great ex- tremes to determine the final candidate for this position. Page Michel will assume the role of president as only the third president to lead the Texas City–La Marque Chamber in the past 33 years, preceded by Jimmy Hayley and Jenny Senter. “I welcome and embrace the addition of Page Michel to our team,” president Jenny Senter said. “Page is a highly respected chamber profes- sional who is recognized across Texas as a leader and innovative, forward-thinking individual. Our chamber will be in excellent hands with Page as president. I look forward to her energy and insight.” PRESIDENT from the front Welcome new members Rain for Rent 2712 Independence Parkway S. I look forward to her en- ergy and insight” JENNY SENTER , president4 | Chamber Express | July 2020 Tell us a little about your company’s background. Meador Staffing has been in business since 1968. We started out as Meador Brady Personnel Services by a pair of Houston-area HR professionals and changed our name to Meador Staffing in 1997. How would you summarize what you do? Meador Staffing is a full-service staffing agency. Direct hire, temporary workers, contract hire, leader- ship/employee trainings — we have you covered. All of our candidates go through an extensive background process and skills assessment to ensure they are the perfect candidate for a specific position. Our account managers cultivate meaningful relationships with clients to really get to know who they are looking for and what type of person would fill their open roles. How has your business evolved over time? Started in 1968 as Meador-Brady Personnel with Gene Brady and Ben Meador, the company grew to have multiple office locations. Armed with knowl- edge and expertise of the industry, we began helping more than 100 other business owners throughout the nation get into the staffing business. Throughout our 51 years, we’ve actually owned and operated two national networks: Inter-City personnel associates, a national recruiting network and Inter-city temporary services, a national network of inde- pendently owned and operated staffing companies. We’ve seen the industry evolve from the ’60s and ’70s where everything was paper. Now, technology is one of the driving forces in the staffing industry. Meador Staffing Services 722-A Fairmont Parkway Pasadena, TX 77504 713-966-9893 What are some of your proudest accomplishments? Meador started the Pasadena McDonald’s Texas Invita- tional that has raised tens of thousands of dollars each year for Pasadena and Deer Park ISD. Watching that event grow has been heartwarming to see. We also have had employees serve in leadership positions in local chambers of commerce, Society for Human Resource Management local, state and national chapters and have served as president of Texas Association of Staffing and Personnel Consultants. But, being in the Pasadena area for more than 50 years and really becoming ingrained in the community has been such a blessing. During our 50th anniversary celebration October 2018, we asked people to stand up if they had been placed anytime by Meador Staffing, and if they had ever worked at Meador Staffing. The number of lives our company has touched over the years is our favorite accomplishment. What are you working on now? What keeps CEOs up at night right now is the lack of talent for their workforce. With unemployment being at an all-time low, Meador is always thinking about being innovative as a staffing partner to its clients and people in the community. To further that partner relationship, we have begun a series of Lunch ’n Learn events for clients to attend to help with issues businesses have ev- ery day; employee retention, HR support, culture clash, etc. We also are working on outlining a training for the individuals we place to be even more prepared for the job they choose. Since opening its doors in 1966, Shri- ners Hospitals for Children – Galveston has cared for children with small to crit- ical burn injuries from the local commu- nity; Texas and other parts of the U.S., as well across the globe. The first of four pediatric Shriner burn centers established in the nation, Galveston has led the way in doubling the survival rate of children with burns of more than 50 percent of their body surface. Today, patients with burns more than 90 percent of their body can not only survive, but also go on to lead full, pro- ductive lives thanks to the cutting-edge clinical care, research and education at Galveston Shriners Hospital. Such burn and reconstructive care continues to be accessible to all who need it, regardless of the family’s ability to pay; earning Shriners Interna- tional a reputation that stands today as one the greatest philanthropic organi- zations in the world. Roots in Texas City Inspired by his experience with treating patients from the 1947 Texas City Disaster, Truman Blocker, M.D., a retired Brigadier General and (former) President of the University of Texas Medical Branch, saw an urgent need for pediatric burn care in the U.S. Recognized internationally as a pioneer for his work in treating burn patients and mass casualties, Blocker formed a natural alliance with Shri- ners, who also were known for their ground-breaking efforts in combatting the polio epidemic of the 1920s and opening their first philanthropic hospi- tal for specialized treatment of orthope- dic conditions in Shreveport, Louisiana. Shriners Hospitals for Children’s part- nership with UTMB still exists today.
