This first-class tournament hosted at Bayou Golf Course in Texas City is renowned as the biggest and best in Galveston County. The Golf Classic is named after legend- ary former Chamber President Jimmy Hayley. Hayley designed this tournament to benefit members as well as the Chamber. You can enjoy the benefit of having your business promoted in front of more than 500 golfers, local busi- ness representatives, and civic leaders. P age Michel, President/CEO of the Texas City- La Marque Chamber of Commerce, has an- nounced her resignation effective Sept. 15. “It has been a great honor to work for the Texas City-La Marque Chamber, to oversee the success of the staff and help shape the future of the organization,” Michel said in her letter. “I’m proud that we have met and exceeded all bud- get and program goals during my two years as president. I’m moving to be closer to family. It is a bittersweet an- nouncement because I have grown to love this community and all the wonderful people I’ve had the privilege to work with here.” Michel is leaving to take over the president/ CEO position at the San Marcos Area Chamber of Commerce. Starting Sept. 1, Jenny Senter, former President/ CEO, will be acting as Interim President for the Texas City-La Marque Chamber as the Ex- ecutive Board Search Committee begins the candidate selection for a new Chamber President. The Chamber is grateful for Michel’s past leader- ship and wishes her all the best in her future endeavors. A few team-building games were played, and it was fun to see their cooperative and competitive spirits. Lunch was provid- ed by Chick-fil-A. The teachers heard a motivational and encouraging message from Superintendent Dr. Melissa Du- arte, sharing wisdom for a wonderful new school year. The group met at the Galves- ton County Justice Center where they heard an overview of the justice system, historic court records and historic immigration and naturalization records from Chief Deputy District Clerk Doryn Glenn. The group also toured the Galveston jail, led by Capt. Cody Schlageter and Maj. Kevin Walker. Afterward, the group enjoyed a lunch at Maceo’s Spice & Import Company. The session included a stop at the Scholes Interna- tional Airport. The Leadership class was given a tour of the airport facilities, led by Mike Shahan, C.M., Director.
