Since first opening in 1959, the Crowder Funeral Home group has expanded to five family-owned and -operated locations. With traditional funeral homes located in La Marque, Dick- inson, Clear Lake, Pearland and League City. At each location, there is an experienced staff of funeral direc- tors who are devoted to helping clients honor the memory of their loved one. Each location offers a variety of services, including pre-need planning, traditional funeral and cremation services, graveside memorials and more. While offering sim- ilar services, each location is unique. In La Marque, one will find traces of the humble beginnings of the Crowder family’s service to the community. The Dickinson location is the largest and most central of the five locations. The Clear Lake location is best known for its banquet room and catering services. In Pearland, one will find a small but dedicated staff, along with the state-of-the-art crema- tion facility. And, last but not least, the League City location is located in the heart of City of League City. “A family serving families” has been the motto of the Crowder Funeral Home group and the Crowder family since 1959 and still is today! However, that motto would be nothing without the support of the community! Thank you Galveston County for your love and support over the years. And thank you for voting James Crowder Funeral Homes No. 1. CROWDER FUNERAL HOME BEST FUNERAL HOME CARNES FUNERAL HOMECARNES BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME I n February 1983, Betty M. Schocke (deceased) and Janice L. Young (deceased) proudly announced the opening of their first office of Action Personnel Inc. in Texas City. The com- pany is now under the ownership of Deanna K. (Young) Sullivan. Familiar faces in the world of person- nel, with more than 70 years of com- bined experience in both the temporary and permanent placement help busi- ness, it was Betty and Jan’s intent to utilize their professional expertise by providing a “dual” personalized employ- ment service to the businesses in Gal- veston County, Alvin, the Nassau/Clear Lake area and parts of south Houston. The doors to the Texas City office opened during a time that was fast de- veloping into one of the country’s worst recessions, but hard work and perse- verance paid off for Betty and Jan, and on Nov. 1, 1987, they opened a second office on Galveston Island. They felt that they could better service the needs of their island customers by being local. They have been able to recruit more applicants — many of whom would not or could not leave the island to even apply for jobs at the Texas City office. Years later, Action Personnel’s commit- ment to service its clientele has grown because the owners continually strive to improve the standards of the temporary field. You will find that their support for their dedicated people is the absolute best the industry has to offer. Action Personnel is certified as a Historically Underutilized Business and has positioned itself to grow with the demands of an ever-changing and ever-challenging market place. Clients’ increased utilization of temporary personnel to reduce employment ex- penses and provide staffing flexibility has paralleled this national trend. He was having a hard time finding a job, due to nepo- tism policies. He was the son of Steve O’Donohoe, who had 13 brother’s and sister’s, and this made it impossible to work somewhere on the island that his relatives didn’t. He heard that Allstate Insurance was hiring, made a phone call the next day and set up an interview. Over the last 52 years, he has enjoyed the opportunity that was given to him. He has always operated with the motto of “do what is right for the customer.” Over the last 23 years, Sean has followed in his father’s footsteps and has run the agency with the same motto as his dad. Sean enjoys meeting new people and helping them protect what matters most to them. It is important to him to help his customers understand what coverage they have before a loss happens, not after. When finding out that the agency won the Reader’s Choice Award, Sean and David both were excited, appreciative, and humbled by the news. They both agree that what makes the agency so great is the team. They have a fantastic team that is passionate about helping others, one of which is Michelle Quijano. Michelle has been with the agency since she grad- uated from high school in 1990. She celebrated her 30th anniversary this year. She is extremely knowledgeable and helpful with customers insurance needs. The other team members, Morghan Jimenez, Liz Garcia, and Jose Perret are extremely helpful and knowledgeable as well. Everyone in the office would like to say Thank You to all that voted for The O’Donohoe Agency, we are appreciative. We will continue to work to achieve world class customers service of our customers. Conquer the Causeway in the 9th Annual Run/Walk SMART Family Literacy T hank you for voting Galveston Island Human Society as “Best Non-Profit Organization” for several years running! The Galveston Island Humane Soci- ety, Inc. was formed in 1981 and much has changed in the past 34 years. The organization is no longer “the pound,” where animals are held for the legal limit. Today, GIHS has a humane shelter that facilitates reuniting pets with their families and to promote adoptions. GIHS is an “open admission” shelter for Galveston Island, which means it accepts all homeless pets, even when the shelter is full. The open admission status in a community with a disproportionate- ly high number of homeless or unwant- ed pets could lead to needless euthana- sia in our shelter. GIHS works diligently to assure that adoptable pets are not held under a time limit and are kept available until they are placed in a family or trans- ferred to a second chance situation. How can you help? • Community support is vital to the shelter. GIHS relies on contributions directly from you! • Microchip your pets. • Spay or neuter your pets and encour- age others to do the same. • Hold supply drives for pet, clean- ing or office supplies. • Like and share on social media. • Become a member of GIHS. • ADOPT your next best friend. • VOLUNTEER at the shelter. • FOSTER if you cannot adopt.
